Aurinkometsä
The home that set a new direction
Aurinkometsä is a modern wooden house. It set a trend for the entire industry, attracted widespread admiration and took contemporary wood architecture to a new level. At first, its simple exterior made many people wonder whether a wooden house could look so radically different from the traditional style. Today, the architecture of Aurinkometsä seems perfectly normal.
The difference in height between the living spaces beautifully separates the kitchen from the dining area and living room.
The impressive appearance of Aurinkometsä is created by the alternation of gable and hipped roofs and the large windows in the living room. The interior of this house in Vaasa was designed to be modern, in keeping with its architecture, while still feeling warm. Soapstone, another natural Finnish material, was chosen to complement the light, slightly translucent wooden walls. Different soapstone tiles were selected for the floors and walls in the wet areas. Light, London-inspired shades of grey and brown were chosen for the interior textiles and furniture. They add warmth to the overall light appearance.
The corner windows offer a wide view.
